Tinder Robot Suit Design

Overview

Capritor partnered with Gaslight FX Studio and a leading commercial ad agency to bring a bold promotional concept to life for Tinder. The project was part of Tinder’s first-ever Canada‑exclusive campaign promoting Face Check, a new anti‑bot verification system designed to eliminate fake profiles and build trust among users.

To communicate this message in a playful, unexpected way, the agency envisioned a fully wearable robot suit that could be worn by a performer and taken on “dates” with real people in downtown Toronto. Influencers amplified the stunt with social posts like “Are we dating robots now”, while hidden cameras captured the public’s reactions.

Capritor was brought in as Gaslight FX Studio’s digital department to design the robot from the ground up and leverage 3D scanning and 3D printing to deliver a production‑ready costume without traditional molding or casting.

Campaign Context

The broader campaign was developed by Gut Toronto, with Vayner Media handling media strategy. The initiative centered on showcasing Tinder’s commitment to user safety through Face Check, a mandatory verification system across Canada (outside Quebec). The robot stunt served as the campaign’s guerrilla-style PR anchor, generating strong organic traction across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and local media outlets.

Our robot suit was the physical centerpiece of this stunt — the “bot” that Tinder was finally ready to eliminate.

The Creative Challenge

The agency’s concept required a robot that felt futuristic, expressive, and believable enough to provoke genuine reactions from the public. The performer would be filmed covertly as they went on staged dates around Trinity Bellwoods Park, while influencers documented the experience for social media.

The robot needed to:

  • Fit the actor perfectly

  • Allow for mobility during the dates

  • Convey emotion through lighting and movement

  • Look polished enough for close‑up filming

  • Be fabricated on a tight timeline

Our Approach

The Shoot

On the day of filming, the robot performer went on three staged dates around Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods Park. Hidden cameras captured the public’s reactions, while influencers documented the experience for social media. The stunt aligned perfectly with Tinder’s message about combating bots and promoting authenticity.

The agency was thrilled with the final costume and the seamless collaboration between Capritor and Gaslight FX Studio.
